Worcester Timber Products, a well-established and reputable fencing, garden landscaping and timber product supplier, reached out to Wickens for storage solutions to help organise the yard and increase its storage capacity.
With growing customer demand and restricted space on site, the Worcestershire-based company opted for multiple racking systems to safely store different products: fence panels, packs of timber and fence posts of various lengths.
Whilst a double-sided Cantilever Rack was a simple answer to the timber pack storage requirements, the fence panel racking required a more complex solution.
“Fence panels are a high value product that was getting damaged from being stored on the floor and also bleached by the sun,” said Leon, Director at Worcester Timber Products, “So the sheltered racking is very beneficial, it gets the product off the floor and helps to protect it as well.”
After the initial site survey, Wickens designed a fully fit-for-purpose solution, over 25 metres long and two metres deep. The twelve beam locations, each with a 1000kgs capacity, are ideal for storing panels horizontally. The ground level section is for manual picking of products: each of the six storage bays has special dividers to separate different fence panel types and keep them upright.
Leon commented, “It allowed us to store more product and we’ve added extra product lines, which we didn’t have before. Also, we’ve been able to carry more stock in the busy times, so it has helped us to cope with the increasing demand.”
The Heavy Duty Racking, made from hot-rolled structural steel sections, has already proven to be a robust and reliable alternative to conventional pallet racking after the recent storms. The rack frame withstood the impact of a fallen old poplar tree and remained completely undamaged. The stock was protected and only a few roof canopy components needed replacing.
The final storage system was a twelve metre long galvanised Vertical Rack for storage of DuraPost fence posts. “The customers are all impressed by it because there are obviously so many products that you can now just look through and pick, it’s also well laid out and protected,” said Leon.
He added, “All products were excellent, and so was Wickens all the way through from the design stage, customer service, installation – it was all good.
