MCM asked us to supply and install a suitable storage system, as well as relocating some existing racking, to store custom aluminium extrusions at their new site in Avonmouth.
MCM is one of the UK’s leading independent suppliers of custom aluminium extrusions. The decision to open a new central distribution centre meant that equipment from some of its smaller sites needed to be relocated. This equipment needed reconfiguring and extra storage added to it to cope with additional aluminium extrusions and roll formed stainless steel. Company Director Shaun Heard contacted Wickens Engineering to facilitate with the move and to provide further equipment.
Wickens designed a cantilever racking system on which to store the aluminium extrusions. It was important that as part of the project we reconfigured the existing equipment to fit with the additional racking. As a Combilift truck was to be used to access the racking we also proposed installing a guide rail system to protect the racking from the truck. Further protection of the equipment was ensured through the installation of a Wickens barrier systems.
We not only manufactured and installed the required equipment but also relocated the existing racking to the new site in Avonmouth. Wickens worked with the installers to meet the timescale set by MCM, which involved working around the building work and relocation. Several site visits have been involved from the design stage to the installation of the guide rail and barriers. The job went smoothly, with Shaun Heard stating that ‘the service from my initial meeting with Wickens to installation was superb’.
